It is a white flaky crystal or powder, freely soluble in water (≈523g/L at 20°C), melting point ＞300°C with high stability.

As an anionic sulfonate monomer and fine chemical intermediate, it is mainly used as a polymer synthesis monomer (for copolymer modification of polyacrylonitrile, acrylates, polyethers, etc.), and also serves as concrete water reducer, electroplating brightener, water treatment dispersant, pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediate.
